Some of my Favorite Things from 2024

Hey there.

As 2024 heads toward the door, I thought I’d share some cool things from the year, in no particular order.

The DJI Osmo Pocket 3 - WOAH what a cool camera! Did you say “gimbal”? Yep a gimbal too. Honestly if all you have is this and a phone, congrats, you’ve got what you need to create content.

Video Podcasting Made Easy (the book) - wrote and self-published my second book which was co-written by my good friend Ross Brand. Besides hitting best-seller in a lot of countries, it was the first time I’ve done a cowriting thing and loved it.

Roku Streaming Stick - our Roku TV stopped connecting to the internet. It worked, just kept dropping the signal. Cue the stick for the win! Way cheaper and gives us more options too.

A Box of Pens - okay, not just any pens, like a 5lb box of misprinted pens, but who cares when you never run out of pens again!

Star Wars “Yoda Best Dad” T - gift from my youngest son. Way cool shirt.

Zach Bryan - WOW what a voice. WOW what a songwriter.

The Blue Angels - amazing documentary on Prime Video about, well, the Blue Angels.

Line of Duty - I’m a BBC detective show nut. This was so good, it’s on my “Best TV of All Time” list.

Nate Bargatze - don’t know how much of him we watched but DANG he’s so funny! Think he just dropped a new Netflix special too.

Never Too Small (Simone Giertz) - I can’t build anything. Seriously. This blew me away with what she creates for her small spaces.

Nichola Garofola - really good videos about minimalism and other things. Love his production too.

SamTime - I never knew how funny parody tech reviews could be until I found this channel. Buckle up.

Lastly, I’d be extremely remiss if I didn’t mention my YouTube channel.

Shameful plug? Yeah maybe, but the fact I took a chance (was it really?) to refocus my channel on WHO over WHAT and found the community I wanted to really be a part of.

Here’s the video that literally changed my channel probably forever 👉 WATCH

So that’s my list.

What’s on yours?

Let's talk more in 2025.

Hey there. So did you know that Matthew McConaughey… you know, Mr. Alright, Alright, Alright… has a newsletter? Turns out Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey has a newsletter on Kit which is kinda a big deal. I’ve been using Kit for my newsletter, my email, and it’s okay. I do like the free plan – it’s free for up to ten thousand subscribers. There are some limitations on it, but I haven’t really found the limitations have hurt me. Back to Matthew. I thought "okay, that's cool" so I subscribed....

"Show up for someone." I don't remember where I heard that but it stuck with me enough to save it. I'm reminded of that when I think of this picture. Years ago, I went with a group on a mission trip to Honduras (beautiful country and people!). During the week, we spent the day at an orphanage tucked away in the mountains. We had been asked if we could hand out Christmas Boxes from Samaritans Purse that had been delayed in customs, so we did. I can't describe the emotion of seeing these...

This week I was perusing YouTube, as I often do, and I came across a new video from Peter McKinnon. (If you don't know Peter McKinnon, then where you been?) He's an amazing videographer, photographer, and actually started years ago as a magician. He has several businesses other than just being a YouTuber with millions of subscribers. He runs a company called Pirate Life (or something like that), and I think he's even gotten into leather smithing. He's just amazing! In this video, he was...
